Assessment and treatment of chronic pain that has no structural cause.
Pain is a danger signal. When you put your hand on a hot stove, your brain sends you pain so that you move your hand to prevent further tissue damage from occurring. However, sometimes these danger signals get activated even when no structural damage has occurred. What takes place is the brain misinterprets safe signals from the body as dangerous and as a result produces pain. This is known as neuroplastic pain, and with appropriate treatment is completely reversible.
Pain Reprocessing Therapy supports clients in eliminating or greatly reducing their pain by:
1. Reducing a client’s fear of the pain and have them begin viewing these sensations through a lens of safety.
2. Changing a client’s relationship with fear in general and have them begin experiencing emotions through a lens of safety.
A recent study completed in Boulder, Colorado found the majority of participants, with chronic back pain, who received Pain Reprocessing Therapy were pain free or nearly pain free by the end of the study and afterwards.
