Common motor vehicle accident (MVA) injuries and symptoms

Immediately after an accident has happened, you may feel fine. However, this can be caused by your body releasing adrenaline and masking your pain. According to the Government of Alberta, 9.5% of car crashes resulted in non-fatal injuries. The longer you wait, the worse your pain may be. It’s important to monitor yourself for any symptoms over the next few days and seek treatment as quickly as possible.

Some common injuries you may experience include:

  • Whiplash
  • Concussions
  • Vertigo
  • Dizziness
  • Headaches
  • Soft tissue injuries
  • Scrapes and cuts
  • Head injuries
  • Broken bones
  • Chest injuries
  • Spinal injuries
  • Internal bleeding
  • Psychological trauma

Your personalized approach will combine Chiropractic Care, Physiotherapy, Massage Therapy and Acupuncture. Each technique is used to address your situation, which will be discussed during your initial assessment. The aim is to reduce pain, improve mobility and restore your physical and cognitive function.

Insurance and billing for motor vehicle accident injury treatment

Under the Diagnostic and Treatment Protocols Regulation, the Government of Alberta offers covered treatments for sprains, strains and certain whiplash-type injuries. With this, you are entitled to 10-21 treatments as long as they are claimed within 90 days of your accident.

To claim your treatments:

  1. Book your assessment. Our team will ensure you have completed the appropriate forms, such as the AB-1 form (Notice of Loss and Proof of Claim Form). We will then conduct a thorough assessment of your situation and medical history so that we can complete an AB-2 form (Treatment Plan Form) for you. We’ll also discuss the desired outcome of your appointments.

2. Process your claim: Your claim will be assessed under the DTPR. If approved, your insurer will be billed directly and we’ll handle the rest.

If you are not approved, coverage may be available through extended health benefits or an insurer. We are happy to answer any questions.

3. Your post-car accident treatment: We will review your personalized approach so that you understand what the next few weeks will entail. Your wellness team will constantly assess your body and its response, adjusting as needed to meet your goals. All assessments are sent to your insurance provider.

Cost for Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Treatments

In most cases, your treatments will be direct billed to your insurance. Once you are approved for coverage, our team will handle the claims process, ensuring you won’t have to pay out of pocket for care. While some clinics may require upfront payments outside of your covered visits, we direct bill everything for your ease of mind.
